Journalism was key here. Reporting the facts that happen to be funny. We couldn’t be caught tickling any ribs. It was about taking situations that feel truthful and relatable and presenting them without passing judgement, while giving the audience space to decide what they think is funny. This tends to be where comedy advertising thrives – be as serious and straight faced as possible about something that is funny. This campaign played with a lot of inherently British truths, which tends to be a winner – the British are happy to laugh about the silly things that make them unique.
