D&AD Custom Typeface - Festival 2025
D&AD wanted to show up as more D&AD than ever before, yet a crucial asset was letting them down: type. As the campaign worked to cement the Pencil as a symbol of the value of creativity, we looked for ways to bring that symbol into the type itself. Pencil Gothic was born: a fully custom, display-driven cut of Franklin Gothic inspired by the Pencil. Its hexagonal shape defines the typeface’s character and structure, from subtle angles in the terminals to more overt hexagon-inspired letterforms and punctuation, combining the past and future of the Pencil in an unmistakably D&AD way.
