Our house is not a Home

Shelter needed to highlight an urgent housing issue: over 84,000 families in England living in unsafe temporary accommodation. Severe damp and mould, inadequate heating, and poor conditions mean these spaces cannot truly be called homes.

So we took the world’s most famous song about homes, “Our House” by Madness, and re-composed it to reflect the experience of a child living in temporary accommodation. We inverted the tone without changing a single lyric, stripping back nearly all instrumentation. Then matched each line to haunting scenes for a powerful emotive message. You’ll never hear the original track the same way again.
