DAVID ABBOTT
Among our many new ideas is the foundation of the Creative Circle Hall of Heroes. It’s a lifetime achievement award and to be included you have to have made an outstanding contribution to advertising creativity as recognised by the Creative Circle. This year the decision was unanimous and the award goes to David Abbott. He’s achieved this not by shouting louder than everyone else, but by creating intelligent, honest and heartfelt advertising that really engaged with, and had respect for its audience. This is a skill that David honed over forty years in the Industry, at first learning his craft from luminaries such as David Ogilvy and Bill Bernbach. From Award winning V.W campaigns in the late sixties at DDB David eventually went on at Abbott Mead Vickers to produce ground-breaking work for Volvo, The Economist, BT, Yellow Pages and the RSPCA among many others. His highly successful and long running Sainsburys print campaign was revolutionary in the way it emphasised quality instead of price. Davids’ contribution to the craft of Copywriting is so large that we’re dedicating a sizable chunk of the new Creative Circle Annual to showcase it.
